The AAS was established in direct response to the humanitarian crisis following the 1991 Gulf War and the hardships suffered by the Assyrian people during Saddam Hussein's rule in Iraq. Its headquarters is located in Dohuk, Iraq. The current AAS President is Ashur Sargon Eskrya.
